Restoration and readjustment as place of worship

Restoration works and readjustment as place of worship involved part of an important Cluniac priory, built in 1100 on a devotion medieval chapel, and laid on the Roman fortifications,  a military district  along the Pandina way. In 1992 the Hospital of Vizzolo Predabissi, owner of the monastery, donated all the degraded buildings to the local Parish, including the deconsecrated Church and the churchyard. The Lombardy Region funded the initial works consisting of  archaeological excavations aiming to trace the first fortified building, the Carolingian place of worship and the original foundations. Frescoes were restored by Pinin Brambilla Barcilon and the innovative new windows were casted by the Master Pino Castagna.  Restoration works were designed and carried out by architects Linda Capriolo, Pietro Ripa and Giorgio Ripa, and affected the entire structures with the reconstruction of the churchyard, the thirteenth-century frescoes, the triumphal Cluny arch, and the stone elements. The fine restoration allowed the re-consecration of the church converting it into a parish. In 2002, the Ministry recognized the importance of the monument and of the meticulous restoration deciding to reimburse part of the costs with Governmental  funds.
