Restoration works and upgrading

The interventions of upgrading and restoration of the buildings known as “Cascine Chiesa Rossa(Farms of the Red Church) were characterized by a general recovery of the walls carried out on each pillar and wall (about 80%) through the recovery of the joints - scarified and sealed with appropriate hydrated lime mortar - as well as the plumbing of the off-axis pillars with arrangement of the masonry. Green areas were redeveloped, with new paths inside the park; street furniture and public lighting were installed, such as playground for children. The importance of static and functional recovery of ancient artworks is mainly due to the need of rebuilding their initial function using the original materials as much as possible. As far as the Church of Santa Maria della Fonte, included in the area, is concerned, the last intervention (2000-2003) was directed towards the completion of the works begun in 1966, thus enabling the establishment of a small religious community and the reopening to the public of this important monument.
