Preservation and restoration of roofs and of the exterior walls

It is important to note that almost all the original plasterwork of the lantern was preserved: in the most sheltered areas even the paint film was in a good condition, whereas in other places the painted surface was missing, but the finishing was preserved. In other parts only the plaster without the finishing coat, occurs with sporadic areas of separation from the support, or with remaking with cement mortar. The most interesting aspect of the intervention involved the decorated surfaces, almost hidden due to the presence of different types of degradation. The conservative interventions allowed an almost complete recovery of all decorated surfaces. These surfaces were very different: in addition to pictorial decorations in niches and recesses, there were elements such as balustrades, triglyphs, cornices, bugnato, large faux marble surfaces in different tonalities of yellow, red, fviolet, and painted sides with floral motifs and geometric patterns. In addition to these, traces of engraving that have contributed to the understanding of the artworks can be seen on the plaster. During the course of operations, it was observed that also the cotto surfaces were plaster finished and that traces of the finishing paint film were still present.
