Since widespread infiltration of rainwater from roofs and damp due to faulty drainage put at risk the preservation of important artworks hosted in the Church, operations involving recovery of roofs and arrangement of the metal components preceded the restoration of the exterior walls and of the decorations of the fourth chapel on the right. At a later stage, interventions involved exteriors, working primarily on the main façade and on the fronts of the chapels overlooking via Chiossetto. The most interesting aspect of the intervention was represented by the discovery and recuperation of the original plasterworks preserved under the plasters relating to the twentieth-century restoration. The laboratory tests and the graphical and photographical documentation witnessing the status quo preceding the interventions and the interventions themselves contributed to broaden the knowledge of the XV century architecture in Milan, and provided substantial information on the restorations carried out during the early twentieth century.
