Restoration, consolidation and reuse of the Monastery

The restoration works that, since 1996, have affected the Abbey of St. Maria dell' Annunziata were carried out in batches, thanks to regional government funding and loans in different phases. The initial funding allowed a deep study the Monastery with a first urgent intervention for the recovery of the roof structure between 1997-1998. In a second phase the recovery of the loggia near the southern wing, and dehumidification procedures of the painted walls were completed. An additional grant allowed the provisional consolidation of the painted wall surface on the triumphal arch, while a contribution from Cariplo Foundation allowed the static consolidation of the Bell Tower. On the basis of the Program Agreement with the Region, the Province and the University of Milan, the building was assigned to student home and the restoration works were completed. Since 2007, after the upgrading to University facility, the restored buildings are open to the public.
