Interventions of restoration on the exteriors of Bramante’s podium (Tribuna)

Between 2002 and 2005, the Commission for Architectural Heritage and Landscape of Milan, funded by the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activity,after many surveys carried out on the external surfaces of the podium (tribuna) of St. Maria delle Grazie aiming to assess the state of conservation of materials and the corresponding causes of degradation, decided a series of interventions for preventing or at least delaying the risk of loss of the decorations. Different procedures were adopted for consolidation and protection according to the construction materials (brick, Angera stone, Candoglia marble, plaster, niello) and to their state of preservation.
