Renovation of Arese Borromeo Palace at Cesano Maderno

Built as a private dwelling on the border of the ancient medieval village of Cesano Maderno, south of Milan, the building is today part of a suburban landscape grown during the Industrial Era. When, in 1987, the building became a municipality property, it was in a state of abandon and decay.
A renovationthe and reuse project started in the 90’s with the purpose of creating a social and cultural place.
From 1998 to 2000, Cooperativa per il Restauro carried out the renovation of decorations on the piano nobile (main floor): namely in the rooms of Quartiere di Grande Rappresentanza (Main Boardroom), such as the Scalone d’Onore (main staircase), the Liberal Arts Gallery, the Roman splendour Hall, the Arese Halland the restored XVIII century private apartment.
On the ground floor the renovation and preservation works interested the frescura or grottaglie halls (1999-2000), including the structural strengthening of walls, wooden coverings, brick and arellato vaults, as well as the preservation of mosaics, wall paintings, plaster elements and stone artifacts.
