Renovation and structural consolidation of  the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary at Santo Stefano Lodigiano (LO)

The historian Lorenzo Monti (in “Almanacco Codognese” 1919, page 40) testifies that the construction of the Parish Church of Santo Stefano Lodigiano started in 1756 - through the dedication of Cardinal Doria - after the cornerstone laying on September 19th. The church was consecrated in 1776 by the Bishop of Lodi,  Monsignor Andreani.
Consolidation works became necessary after the hearthquake occurred on 23rd December 2008 (measuring a 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale with epicenter in the province of Reggio Emilia) which entailed the church closure. The first interventions aimed at reinforcing and securing the structure so to allow the reopening of the church.
Thanks to the support and fundings of many  organizations, the church was reopened in record time in Easter 2010 (less than one year from the earthquake).
