Fornace Rubini (Rubini’s Furnace) of Corno Giovine

The furnace of Corno Giovine, also called Fornace Rubini, named after the owner’s name who bought it in 1974, is located  in the municipality countryside. It’s an Hoffman kiln - elongated plan with semicircles at the two ends, covered by a wide roof with a kiln in the middle where a fire burns continuously.
The furnace is used for the production of bricks made from fired clay and secured with mortar, a bonding agent comprising of cement, sand, and water. Probably the original kiln plan was oval:  what we can see today are the two parallel tunnels, whose extremes were closed by two fire resistant brick doors – still existing - with iron frames.
Today Fornace Rubini hosts paintings and sculptures of the artist Ilia Rubini:  under the portico,  as well as in the galleries, many ancient instruments witness a disappeared work, a missing world of activities and tools, which surprisingly revive in  Ilia’s art works.
This world, despite the dust that covers it, has to be given to the new generations. Fornace  Rubini  is the last example of furnace survived in Lodi district and  it is still potentially functioning.
