Restoration of decorations inside the Hall of the Frescoes and other rooms on the first floor of The Senate Palace (Palazzo del Senato)

In March 2008, inside some of the rooms of the former offices of the Archives Commission of Lombardy, in Palazzo del Senato and State Archives of Milan in Via Senato 5 - now School of Archival and Paleographic Studies – massive stratigraphic evaluations were carried out in parallel with the reuse and upgrading project of the former Commission.
The most interesting results came from the images taken in Rooms D and F (see map).
In Room D, under the more recent plasterboard ceiling, a brick vaulted structure entirely decorated with plant motifs on an ochre background appeared. Under these tempera magra decorations, stratigraphic images brought to light an even more ancient lime painted adornment, always with plant motifs, on a blue-light blue background.
Following these findings, in 2009, the Commission for the Architectural Heritage of Milan and D & A Communication Srl in Rome, decided for the urgent recuperation of the ancient decorations dating back to the XVII century. Restoration works are still ongoing.
